Keep Your Weight Loss Goals Intact During the Holidays



Losing weight during the holiday season can seem almost impossible with all of the activities and temptations. Let's face it- it can be very hard to avoid food during the last couple of months of the year. It starts with the Halloween candy, peaks with Thanksgiving dinner and then comes to a resounding finish with Christmas dinner (if you celebrate Christmas) and a nice encore of hors d'oeuvres at New Years Eve parties. Temptations are everywhere! Is there a way to actually keep your weight under control in the face of this? If you're serious about not gaining weight (or even losing some) over the holidays, pay close attention to the pointers we'll be sharing in this article. Devote some extra time to your workouts. There's no other way to eat all these snacks, treats and feasts without gaining weight. You may as well just accept the fact that you'll be taking in more calories for the next few weeks or so. This doesn't mean you have to spend hours on end at the gym -it's often better to fit in shorter exercise sessions throughout the day when you get a chance. When you feel yourself starting to give in to temptation and reach for things that you know are going to be bad for you, turn toward a person instead. Conversations are effective diversions that can stop you from eating too much. The idea is to shift your basic focal point at holiday events -make your main goal to talk to people and push eating into a secondary role. Socializing and mixing with people is really what the holidays are supposed to be about, right? It can't all be about the food, can it?

Maintaining your weight loss goals over the holidays takes some thought, but it's surely doable. While the holidays may cause you to change your habit a little, for the most part it's perfectly possible to remember your diet and exercise regularly. A few extra holiday calories here and there won't hurt you, as long as you work them off -but remember that they can add up if you don't watch yourself.
